The Sound of Healing
Sound healing is the process of using music to improve the health of an individual. This practice has been used for centuries to cure many ailments, and it is still commonly used today in all aspects of medicine and spiritual growth.
Healing with sound happens in a number of ways, including listening or singing along, meditating, chanting, playing musical instruments, and subjecting the patient to specifically crafted sounds to induce positive brainwaves.
The benefits of sound healing include improved emotional and social development, cognitive and motor functioning, and psychological and psychiatric health. Sound therapy is even more effective when used in conjunction with meditation.
There are various and numerous types of music therapy out there, some of which are more scientific, while others are more spiritual. Instruments commonly used in sound healing include the voice, didgeridoo, djembe, gong, hammered dulcimer, hang, kalimba, monochord, Native American flute, rain stick, singing bowl, tuning fork, and wind chimes.
